Program Concept
Youth Empowerment developed from strategies and methodologies that have been proven effective in urban communities. Didactic instruction coupled with hands-on participation makes up the fundamental concept of employment and business training. The incentives for participating in such a program are innate in the entertainment industry. Entertainment is just that; it is entertaining. However, it is extremely demanding yet rewarding. Being that entertainment is a multi Billion Dollar industry, Project U-Turn will expose participants to the following: Business start-up, management in the Recording and Clothing Industries, music recording, music and video production, manufacturing, distribution, sales, marketing and more.
One of the end results of this program is participants working together to form a record company, and develop the following: produce a Compilation Compact Disc, Audio Tape, T-Shirt, a Business plan and Marketing plan, produce a Video, and the promotional material needed to promote and market the project. Participants will actually implement the processes to take the products to market.
A broad range of services will be provided for each participant. Each participant will be required to take an entry assessment test to target strengths & weaknesses. Then develop a personalized individual goal plan sheet. This will track & document all academic achievements, including career development. Job placement will be the motivating factor. This will be the cause & effect leading up to high retention rates.
A flexible curriculum allows each participant to choose his or her area of expertise. The curriculum is based on non-traditional career paths, which may ultimately lead participants to explore and or create job opportunities outside existing job markets.
Upon completion of mandatory components below, participants may choose no less than one specialty area for career or business development. Part of the success of this program will be the linkages and partnerships that we have with various businesses and other career streams. We will provide the core training at a designated location(s). Once participants complete the mandatory core training, then partners will aid in the continuance in the following courses:
LifeSkills Training
“Boys N2 men” (Manhood) & “Virtuous Teen” (Womanhood) Life Skills Training (Mandatory)
12 weeks @ 2 hours/wk
We have developed this life skills program to train teens on how to become men and women.
This course will go through accountability, character, money management, decision-making, anger management, dressing for success, peer pressure, abstinence, STD’s, make-up, shaving, nutrition, cooking, dining, culture, and more…
Each participant must go through this element before going into the other streams.
Leadership Training (Mandatory)
10 weeks @ 2 hours/wk.
This course is designed to develop the skills needed which will assist each participant in achieving individual success by improving communication skills, accountability etc.
Required text:
21 Laws of Leadership- Techniques in applying principles and procedures that produce life changing results in their personal, family, and business life. Highlights: goal setting, self- esteem, self evaluation and recognizing strengths; i.e. personal appearance, motivational strategies, and personal goals.
The One Minute Manager & Leadership by the Book. Highlights- a concept called “Servant Leadership” whereby assessment, goal setting, and positive reinforcement are the key to success. The goal is to transform the participant from no or low esteem to becoming one of the future leaders of tomorrow. This text is geared toward those who wish to manage others effectively and or to run their own business.
